The Sitayana (or “How to Make an Exit”) premieres this month, with Sita’s Slumber Party, staring yours truly, officially opening with a talkback on September 26th. Written by Lavina Jadhwani, directed by Reena Dutt, and co-produced by East West Players, Hypokrit Productions and Enacte Arts, The Sitayana is a part coming of age story, part Hindu epic, and part break-up play, following Sita from age 16 to 26. Good Morning America invited me to respond to actor Katie Leung coming forward about racist attacks towards her during Harry Potter, and then being asked to deny them. We discussed the importance of challenging the status quo and breaking silence in Hollywood (from sexual harassment to racism and beyond) through reimagining structures, accountability, community and coalition building, using one’s privilege, dismantling hierarchies, representation, scarcity mentality, and more. It’s not isolated to Katie and it’s not isolated to Hollywood - these incidents are all rooted in the same systemic oppression. Remembering it’s up to us to protect and stand by one another - here’s the aired snipped of that conversation!

STOP AAPI HATE: ABC Nightline

Thursday night I had the honor of speaking live during an ABC Nightline segment "Stop the Hate" about the recent rise of anti-Asian American hate violence alongside Daniel Dae Kim, Olivia Munn, Jeremy Lin and many others, as a board member of South Asian Americans Leading Together.
